BIO

Brais González is one of the most eclectic pianists of his generation, whose career has always been divided between classical performance, an extensive work as an accompanist and chamber musician and an interesting career as a composer and sound creator who always seeks to bring together diverse stylistic universes, from contemporary music to folk, indie or film music.

His solo albums synthesise all these worlds, offering a journey through improvised landscapes.

Born in Vigo in 1987, he began his piano studies in his city with Aleksandras Jurgelionis, Aldona Dvarionaité, and Ricardas Biveinis, with whom he also studied composition. He continued his training at the Mozarteum University of Salzburg (Austria) under the guidance of the pianist Rolf Plagge, and also completed his studies at the Conservatorio Superior de Vigo with Severino Ortiz and at the Conservatorio Superior de Oviedo.

He attended masterclasses with many professors and concert pianists, including Oxhana Yablonskaya (Juilliard School of New York), Vitaly Margulis (UCLA), Galina Egiazarova (Escuela Superior de Musica Reina Sofia), Luiz de Moura Castro (Hartford School), Jun Kanno, Niklas Sivelov, Leonel Morales, Julius Andrejevas, Rina Dokshitsky, Carles Marqués, Vlad Dumilescu and Luis Fernando Pérez.

In 2013 he was awarded at the XVIII edition of the International Competition Ciudad de San Sebastián. In 2012 he was awarded the 'Gregorio Baudot' prize at the XXVI Cidade de Ferrol International Competition. He has also been awarded the special prize of the Fundación Musical de Málaga for the best performance of Spanish music. In 2006 he won first prize in the absolute category of the "Real Club Náutico de Vigo" International Competition. He has won prizes at the X Ricard Viñes International Competition (2004), I Galician Association of Interpreters Competition (2004), XII Maria Campina International Competition (Portugal, 2004), Alto-Minho Competition (Portugal) where he also won the prize for the best Portuguese music performance (2003), Regional Competition for Young Performers "Real Club Náutico de Vigo" (1998, 2000 and 2002) and IV Concours International de Piano Nikolai Rubinstein in Paris (1999).

He has performed as a soloist in several Spanish cities, as well as in Portugal, France, Austria and Germany. Dedicated to his job as an accompanying pianist and chamber musician, his work in different ensembles has led him to be present in the main Galician festivals and to perform also in the Netherlands, Belgium, Norway, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Slovakia, Hungary, Serbia, United Kingdom and Italy. Since 2019 he has been a member of Trío Bórea, a chamber ensemble that works on the integration of new digital technologies to create interactive content and immersive concert experiences in the field of chamber music.

COMPOSITION

As a composer, his symphonic works have been performed by various Galician and Portuguese orchestras and conducted by maestros such as Javier Viceiro, Christopher Bochmann, Iminas Kucinskas and Isabel Rubio. He was Artistic Director of the Malaga-based artistic collective Bramnova and since 2013 he leads and coordinates Caspervek Ensemble, a group dedicated to scoring live silent films with which he has performed in more than a dozen European countries. Since 2022 his works have been published exclusively by the Austrian publisher Universal Edition.

BEYOND CLASSICAL

He has also developed an intense career in different genres such as folk, jazz, electronic or improvised music, collaborating with artists such as Peter Arnesen, the indie group Cervan, the Gharbo Orchestra or Nelson Quinteiro and putting music at the service of other arts such as poetry or theatre. He wrote music for different shows at the Escuela Superior de Arte Dramático de Galicia and with different theatre groups such as CinemaSticado.

Since 2017 he co-hosts the online radio show
Anónimo IV, devoted to musical research and dissemination, which has become one of the references among classical music podcasts in Spanish in recent years.
